Andrew Torbiak, B.Comm(Hons), LL.B.
Andrew Torbiak is an associate lawyer with The Wealth & Estate Law Group in Calgary, and with Tradition Law LLP in Winnipeg. Andrew maintains a broad practice in estates law, with an emphasis on estate planning, and estate administration. He also provides consultation to clients on committeeship and attorneyship issues, as well as to estate beneficiaries.
Andrew has been a member of the Manitoba Bar since 2016 and was called to the Alberta Bar in 2021. Prior to entering legal practice Andrew attended the Asper School of Business (class of 2012) and the Robson Hall Faculty of Law, where he earned his Juris Doctorate degree in 2015.
During his time in law school Andrew competed in multiple levels of negotiation competitions, notably finishing first in the Robson Hall Negotiation Competition in 2015, and fifth in the 2016 International Negotiation Competition held in Dublin. Since graduating Andrew has become a sessional instructor of Legal Negotiations at Robson Hall, and coaches third-year law students at the Canadian National Negotiation Competition. He enjoys engaging with law students and discussing the communication and collaboration skills necessary to become a successful negotiator.
Andrew is an inaugural member of an interprovincial roundtable program under which participants benefit from monthly presentations dealing with wills and estates. The current faculty of presenters is comprised of senior lawyers, textbook authors, and a well-known professor emeritus in trusts and estates. Between them, the faculty have published five textbooks on point. Membership to this group is by invitation only and is currently limited to twenty lawyers from various provinces.
